Finished Size: 34½ (38, 42½, 46, 50)” bust circumference. Sweater
The beautiful combination of rich autumn hues in this patterned yoke is the result of many experiments with different yarns, gauges, and colors. Michele Rose Orne designed a classic round-yoke pullover with updated styling. She omitted the traditional ribbed hem, cropped the body, and opened the neckline for a more current silhouette. The patterns on the yoke are echoed on the slim sleeves—all the way to the elbow. A soft alpaca yarn gives the sweater a slightly fuzzy halo and helps blend the stitches that form the color-work sections.
Yarn: Classic Elite Inca Alpaca (100% alpaca; 109 yd [100 m]/50 g): #1108 lamas heather (dark purple-brown heather; MC), 6 (7, 8, 10, 12) skeins; #1153 damask red (dark burgundy), #1123 garland green...
Yarn Weight:
Gauge: 22 sts and 28 rows = 4” in solid-color St st on smaller needles; 26 sts and 26 rows = 4” in St st color-work patt from charts on larger needles.
WPI (Wraps per inch):
Needles: Body and sleeves—Sizes 4 (3.5 mm) and 6 (4 mm): straight. Yoke—Size 6 (4 mm): 20” and 32” circulars (cir). Adjust needle size if necessary to obtain the correct gauge.
Notions: Tapestry needle; markers (m); stitch holders.
